Fleet Management Case Study: BC Transit

Recently, automatic vehicle locator (AVL) systems have become increasingly prevalent in municipal bus systems. Recognizing the value of the technology, BC Transit's Victoria branch wanted an AVL system that would 'push the envelope' of the technology further. In November 2005, it awarded a tender for fleet management software to Victoria-based FleetPoint and AppLocation Systems. Beyond just showing where its buses were, the transit operator wanted its system to show how 'healthy' the buses were.
